Scoring Systems By Genre

Each game genre usually has a similar scoring system. Each game usually expands on the scoring systems in order to make their game competitive or ‘different’ from the typical games within that genre.

First Person Shooter (FPS)

In a First Person Shooter (FPS) game, players earn score by Killing and Assisting against your opponents.

Depending on the game, games can be won by securing objectives such as transporting a payload or assaulting an area.

Games include: Call of Duty, Rainbow 6: Siege, Counter Strike, Overwatch 2​

Battle Royale

Defeating other players and squads will increase your chances of winning.

Win by being the last player or squad alive.

Games include: Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Realm Royale

Sport

Sport games are almost always about scoring more goals or points than the opposing team.

In overtime, usually, the first team to score wins.

Games include: Rocket League, EA Sports FC, Madden, UFC

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA)

Score is earned by destroying the opponents towers and defeating the opponents heroes.

Destroying the opponents core (either a building or a hero) will make you the winner.

Games include: DOTA 2, League of Legends, Pocket Legends​

Racing

To win in a typical racing game you should aim to have the fastest lap time or come in first place.

Many racing games have a ‘league’ format where the winner wins after multiple races.

Games include: Forza, F1, Gran Turismo​
