Sportspersonship and Etiquette

Within Esports there is a lot of overlap between Sportspersonship and Etiquette.​ which can make it difficult to spot the difference between certain aspects of sportspersonship and etiquette.

Sportspersonship

Sportspersonship is about fair play and respect as a competitor and adhering to the rules of a game or tournament. In some cases, not showing sportspersonship can lead to being removed from game tournaments.

Examples of Sportspersonship within Esports
Not trash talking your opponents
Providing words of encouragement to your team mates​
Following the rules of the game or tournament
Being supportive of your team mates
Being humble when you win and gracious when you lose
Not using cheats or abusing bugs/glitches in a game

Etiquette

Etiquette refers to the unwritten rules within esports and relates to having good manners and following the norms of the gaming community.Lack of etiquette may not impact a game or a tournament but may result in professionals losing sponsors and supporters.

Showing your team and opponents respect
Remaining calm during games
Being supportive of your team mates
Wishing your opponents good luck before a match
Using friendly and respectful language in chats/voice chats
Being on time to games and meetings
