Testing a Website

Testing a website ensures that it is both functional and fit for purpose.

There are four main tests that you should carry out when making a website.

Matches user-interface design

To test the design, compare the final product with the original wireframes.

Make sure all elements, layouts, and features match the original design plans and function as expected.

Links and navigation work correctly

To test the navigation, check that all internal and external links work and lead to the correct pages.

Ensure menus, buttons, and interactive elements function as expected and match the original design.

Media displays correctly

To test the media, check that all images, videos, and audio load correctly and appear in the right places.

Consistency

To test for consistency, check that all pages follow the same layout, fonts, text sizes, and colours where intended.

National 5 Targets

You should be able to test a website using all four of the tests.

You should be able to explain how a website has passed or failed a test.
