Game Titles
“It’s the name of the game”
At its most basic, a games Title is the way people will refer to it. This changes for some games, for instance:
- World of Warcraft is known as WoW
- Call of Duty is known as CoD
A good game title often has a mix or all of the following.
- Communicate a game’s theme or main idea
- It should hint at what players can expect – Minecraft, Overcooked, Rocket League
- Be both memorable
- Short, punchy, and distinctive titles tend to stick – Fortnite, Among Us
- Be easy to Say and Spell
- If players can’t pronounce or search for it easily, they are less likely to remember it.
- Stand out from other games
- Avoid generic or overused terms to reduce confusion and improve discoverability
- Match the Tone of the Game
- The title should reflect the mood – whether it’s fun, serious, spooky, or educational.
The more of the above points that a game title hits, the more likely it is to be memorable.
