Input and Output Devices

Every computer system needs a way to get information in and send results back out. That’s where input and output devices come in!

Even though these devices don’t usually appear in the exam, they’re still super useful to know — they help you understand how a computer interacts with the real world.

Input Devices

Input devices let us send data into the computer.

  • Keyboard – for typing words and commands

  • Mouse – for pointing, clicking, and dragging

  • Microphone – for recording sound

  • Scanner – for turning paper documents into digital files

  • Touchscreen – combines input and output!

Output Devices

Input devices let us send data into the computer.

  • Touchscreen – combines input and output!

Some devices like a touchscreen or a game controller can be both input and output!
